In my (what is now irritatingly called pre-teens) childhood, I was, like a lot of boys, fascinated by insects, spiders and bugs. The Observer Book of Insects And Spiders was in my pocket almost everywhere I went. Back then, photography of that sort was pure wonderment for me. And even now, some of the best macro work stops me in my tracks. Just as a personal preference, I photograph creepy-crawlies in some natural context. It’s more a record of behaviour and habitat.
